SummaryDo you enjoy letting children discover our museum? Come and help with the implementation of educational programs and children's activities.
What started in the community center of Wijk C as a private photo collection with mostly recorded stories and memories, has grown over the past 25 years into Het Volksbuurtmuseum, located in the heart of the city of Utrecht. In addition to a permanent display that provides a lively picture of life in a working-class neighborhood around 1900, there are changing exhibitions.
With the efforts of a large group of enthusiastic volunteers, we are able to present this history to our visitors in a unique way. If you would like to join our team and make a contribution to this museum, we cordially invite you to exchange ideas with us about a position as
Supervisor of school groups
A large part of our audience consists of students from education. We develop suitable, inspiring programs for this large target group. They visit the museum on Monday or Wednesday as part of school. As a supervisor you receive and guide the students. There is a lot of room for creativity and personal input in this volunteer position. Team spirit is important in a relatively small organization.
We are looking for a candidate who
- is available during the week, especially on Mondays or Wednesdays.
- has good social skills and sense of responsibility
- preferably living in Utrecht.
What we offer
- a pleasant, informal working atmosphere.
- gain experience in the cultural sector.
- free access to lectures and training courses from or through the museum.
- volunteers who want more can be trained as hosts and/or tour guide in Wijk C.

About Nederlands Volksbuurtmuseum
The working-class neighborhood Wijk C is a model for life in the Dutch working-class neighbourhoods. In the interactive Alley you can experience what it was like to live in cramped and poor conditions around 1920. Walk around with a household book and wallet and see if you can manage with your budget.
In the multimedia presentation about the characteristics of a working-class neighbourhood, you will hear and see what a working-class area is. Past and present are discussed and make you think. And that in genuine 'Uterechs', Amsterdams, Rotterdams and Cockney!
You can learn how working-class neighborhoods came into being at Wijk C in Wording. From settlement on the Vecht, via rich district to poor working-class neighbourhood. The attractive animations - also in English - bring history alive from the earliest times.
The interactive model teaches you in a playful way how life on the street played out around 1925 and that with disappeared sounds and smells!
