Detailed description
Do you like language and do you have an affinity with education? Would you like to get started with the Dutch language with a young family? Then you are our new language coach Language home visit!
What do you do as a language coach?
As a Language Coach at Home Visiting, you and parents of young children (0 to 3 years old) will discuss language enrichment at home. You do this with the help of teaching materials from Taal Doet Meer. This teaching material comes from the Healthy Language teaching method and is specifically about health and parenting themes such as playing, reading, and stress. You will talk to parents to ask what they already do and know in terms of language. This is your starting point: in the language home visits you investigate with them what would stimulate (language) development even more.
As a Language Coach Language Home Visit, you visit a family in your area every week with a language question. You are available 2 hours a week at a fixed time for a period of 25 weeks.
To prepare you completely for your role as a language coach, you will receive training from us. Furthermore, the only requirements are that you have a passion for your role as a language coach, that you can work independently and that you are available for at least six months. You will also receive a 'Tas Vol Taal' from Taal Doet Meer with material to get started with the family well prepared.
What is Reading and Talking with Your Child?
Reading and Talking with your Child is a project aimed at stimulating the language development of children and enriching the language environment at home. It focuses entirely on equal partnership with parents: working together on the language development of the young child (0 to 3 years). Parents with a language delay run a risk of, for example, health problems because they do not speak the Dutch language. It also leads to a language delay in the child(ren). Taal Doet Meer therefore wants to work with non-native parents to get started with the language environment and literacy at home from the very first moment by means of Taalthuis Visits. During the Taal home visits, various topics are discussed, such as education and health issues.

Getting there
About Taal Doet Meer
Voluntary language coaches offer language coaching and activation to men and women who do not have Dutch as their mother tongue. Our volunteer mentors support students with language and schoolwork. They receive extra support to make a good start in first year and when doing homework.
Our work benefits everyone involved: students get to know the language and society. Students perform better in school. Volunteers broaden their horizons, develop their social skills and contribute to understanding and cohesion within Utrecht society.
