What is the School's cool project?

School's cool is intended for students from foreign-speaking families in Utrecht who are making the transition from grade 8 to secondary school. We link the student (pupil) to a voluntary mentor for a year and a half. The mentor and the pupil work together on the homework, study skills and the Dutch language. There is also time to occasionally do something fun, such as going to the library together or, for example, an outing to a museum or a movie. Each School's cool mentor is supervised in practice by a voluntary coordinator.

What do you do as a School's cool coordinator?

As a coordinator you are the point of contact for a group of +/- 8 voluntary mentors. You organize the coupling discussion between the mentors and the young people (pupils). From that moment on you are the first point of contact for the mentors. They will first contact you with questions about the guidance of their pupil. You also organize a meeting for your group of mentors once every two months, so that they can exchange experiences and learn from each other. At the end of the process you ensure a good connection between the mentor and the family. As a coordinator you are the linchpin in the organization. You will be supported in your work by a project leader from Taal Doet Meer. Difficult cases are always discussed together, and every month there is a work meeting, intervision and / or workshop with the youth coordinators.

Profile:

You have an affinity with language and cultures and you are good at involving people. You are open and communicative, have a higher vocational education level of work and thinking and you have organizational talent. You are eager to learn, willing to follow training, independent and reliable: if you give your commitment, you will stay. You are flexible within the agreements and you persevere when things go against the grain.

Tasks:

Coaching

You coach and guide a group of about 8 volunteers. You are the point of contact for them, conduct conversations such as linking discussions, help formulate learning objectives, provide information and refer you if necessary.

Coordination

You organize meetings, ensure process monitoring and coordination internally (employees Taal Doet Meer) and possibly externally (referrers / other organizations / care providers)

Administration

You keep track of the progress of volunteers and participants in our registration system.

Employability:

You are available (flexible) for about 4 hours a week and you know your way around the city of Utrecht.
