Volunteer refugee shelter Refuge - as a point of contact for our guests

What are you doing?

As a volunteer you provide access for the guests to the reception, for coffee/tea, conviviality and a listening ear. You are the point of contact for the guests with questions and support them with their daily tasks (cleaning, cooking, etc.). There are three volunteer shifts per day: a morning, afternoon and evening/night shift. During the night shift you sleep in your own room.

We ask:

- You are available at least twice a month for half a day of six hours and you feel like rolling up your sleeves.

- You are flexible and motivated to offer these men a pleasant reception;

An interesting volunteer experience with special encounters. Volunteering at De Toevlucht can rightly be called a 'world experience'.

Resort:

De Toevlucht offers shelter to undocumented men in our city of Utrecht. The Refuge works closely with the Salvation Army but is not part of the Salvation Army.

Toevlucht has been doing this for more than 7 years now with the efforts of many enthusiastic volunteers: men, women, young, old, from Utrecht or the surrounding area. These men have little to no rights. We do not want to withhold the minimal right of shelter from them and we offer it (now even 24/7) through the great efforts of volunteers.
