Volunteer position Archaeologist

Museum Hoge Woerd, located in Castellum Hoge Woerd in Leidsche Rijn (Utrecht), is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to strengthen the team of archaeologists.

Castellum Hoge Woerd:

Castellum Hoge Woerd is a modern reconstruction of the Roman fort that stood 2000 years ago in De Meern (Utrecht), on the original site and in full size. Today, the castellum is the place where culture, nature and history come together in a unique way, and it is also one of the largest archaeological monuments in the Netherlands. In addition to the museum, this special cultural gathering place houses a city farm with stables and gardens, a theater and a café-restaurant.

Museum Hoge Woerd is a unique and interactive museum for young and old. You can admire the Roman ship De Meern 1, view the surroundings from the walls of the fortress and delve into 3000 years of history through interactive exhibitions. Visitors imagine themselves in Roman times for a moment and discover life in a garrison town on the Limes (Latin for 'border').

Function:

As a volunteer archaeologist, you, together with the professional archaeologist present, will talk to visitors, help with activities and support ongoing research into archaeological finds. Experience or knowledge is not a must, but a predilection for archeology or history and the willingness and enthusiasm to work together with the visitors is.

Main tasks:

- Help with public activities in the ArcheoHotspot

- Transferring knowledge to and guiding visitors to the ArcheoHotspot

- Helping with the various activities in the ArcheoHotspot of Utrecht: such as restoring, sorting, researching and identifying finds.

- Maintaining the ArcheoHotspot

Competencies

- You are interested in archeology and/or history

- You are communicative and socially skilled.

- You enjoy transferring knowledge to a wide audience and you have an affinity with education.

- You are available on Wednesday evening 21 or 23 March for the introductory meeting.

- You are willing to accept assignments from the experienced archaeologist.

- You enjoy being an ambassador for the ArcheoHotspot and the archeology of Utrecht.
