Volunteer function museum teacher

Museum Hoge Woerd, located in Castellum Hoge Woerd in Leidsche Rijn (Utrecht), is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to strengthen the team of museum teachers.

Castellum Hoge Woerd:

Castellum Hoge Woerd is a modern reconstruction of the Roman fort that stood 2000 years ago in De Meern (Utrecht), on the original site and in full size. Today, the castellum is the place where culture, nature and history come together in a unique way, and it is also one of the largest archaeological monuments in the Netherlands. In addition to the museum, this special cultural gathering place houses a city farm with stables and gardens, a theater and a café-restaurant.

Museum Hoge Woerd is a unique and interactive museum for young and old. You can admire the Roman ship De Meern 1, view the surroundings from the walls of the fortress and delve into 3000 years of history through interactive expositions. Visitors imagine themselves for a moment in Roman times and discover life in a garrison town on the Limes (Latin for 'border').

Function:

As a volunteer museum teacher you receive school classes together with another volunteer. Together you provide activities of a total of one hour for this class. You will receive detailed instructions for this, but there is plenty of room for your own input. With your help, the students get to know the Romans and archaeology in an interactive way.

Main tasks:

- Provide activities for primary and secondary school classes (first grade).

- Preparing and discussing school visits

- Feedback to the education officer
