Social Legal Volunteer

STIL is a solidarity organization for people without a residence permit. For over twenty years we have been helping refugees and other migrants without a right of residence in the Netherlands on legal, medical and social issues.

We offer most people first-line help (short advice, referral) during one of our consultation hours. Some of them qualify for more intensive, second-line guidance.

Social Legal Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who would like to join our social legal team for 8 to 16 hours a week.

Are you looking for volunteer work with content and responsibility, in which you can develop yourself both personally and professionally and gain valuable experience? Then this position is definitely for you!

You conduct intake interviews with people who come to STIL with questions about reception and / or their legal situation and you follow up on this by arranging reception, providing (legal) advice or referring people to organizations that can help them.

In addition, you guide your own clients, supported by our team and in particular the Social Legal Coordinator. This may concern short-term support for a specific question, or long-term integral support (legal, social and medical). The guidance includes:

• file investigation
• work on residence rights (file structure, evidence)
• liaising with lawyers
• find a shelter
• guiding from and to various agencies
• social support

Job requirements

• For example, an (almost) completed legal or social education at HBO or WO level (for example Law, Psychology or SJD)
• Affinity with the target audience
• Independent and honest
• Communicative and social
• Good Dutch and English language skills are required, knowledge of the French language is desirable

Experience is not necessary, but passion is . In the position of Social Legal Volunteer you have a lot of responsibility. Because you learn the work best by doing it, we prefer someone who wants to volunteer for a longer period of time. On the other hand, you will gain valuable experience under the guidance of an experienced and passionate group of people.
