Emergency shelter Utrecht (SNDVU) supports the interests of asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies by providing shelter and legal assistance. According to national politics, the problem that the SNDVU is working on does not exist. Nevertheless, local politics recognizes the importance of offering facilities to young asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies. People who are not entitled to government benefits but are unable to leave the Netherlands for various reasons. The SNDVU does not want to abandon these people who fall between shore. In this way, the emergency shelter ensures that these people do not disappear into crime and can still be part of society. The emergency shelter is also looking at whether there are still options for obtaining a residence permit or supporting people when they return. However, these people are not allowed to work or study and have a small budget to (survive) on. For this reason, the possibilities for social activation are examined. In this way the negative spiral of boredom, feelings of inferiority and demotivation is broken for this group of refugees without prospects.
We are looking for a volunteer who would like to help one of our clients learn to ride a bicycle. It concerns a young man of 27 years old from Eritrea and speaks Dutch in a reasonable way. He is very friendly, calm and motivated.

The Emergency Shelter for Homeless Aliens Utrecht (SNDVU) is an aid organization that offers bed, bath, bread and social-legal guidance to rejected asylum seekers. Spread over 21 houses, we receive about a hundred people who have been told that they are no longer allowed to stay in the Netherlands, but have not returned to their country of origin for various reasons. We work with them on a future that offers perspective, among other things by assisting them in social and legal terms.
Given the uncertain situation in which our residents find themselves, it is important to prevent them from becoming inactive and becoming socially isolated. We try to stimulate the participation of our clients with the help of language buddies, buddies and other volunteers.
We are a small team consisting of a number of permanent employees and a number of volunteers.
