Tour guide at Buitenplaats Doornburgh

Do you have a passion for art, nature and architecture and do you want to expand your knowledge and share it with other enthusiasts? Buitenplaats Doornburgh is a meeting place for art and science in Maarssen aan de Vecht. We offer guided tours of the priory, the manor and the gardens in the former monastery on the estate. For this we are looking for enthusiastic tour guides who want to share their love for architecture and history with our visitors one day a week.

About the position as a volunteer

As a tour guide at Buitenplaats Doornburgh you take our visitors into the story of the eighteenth-century main house and the priory (the monastery) from the 1960s. Both buildings are architecturally interesting and attract many art and architecture enthusiasts. The priory is a special work by architect Jan de Jong, who built according to the architectural rules of the Bossche School. We offer weekly tours of the priory and large tours twice a month, including visits to the main house. The last Sunday of every month our manager gives garden tours, for which you can also be used if you are interested.

You support the public counselors by informing visitors about the exhibitions and activities. Your supervisor is the duty manager.

Who are we looking for

As a tour guide you are the calling card of Buitenplaats Doornburgh and you are the first point of contact for visitors. You know how to capture the attention of the visitors and you know how to respond to interests. You have knowledge about history and architecture and a passion for storytelling. You are open to delve into our story. Experience in working in a cultural or public-oriented organization is an advantage, but not necessary. However, it is important that you speak Dutch fluently. Speaking English is a plus. You are service-oriented, representative and flexible. You like to work in a dynamic environment and you live in Utrecht, Maarssen or the surrounding area. Good physical condition is essential, because our country estate and the buildings are large.

We expect your availability of at least two half-days per month during the weekend.
