Room guides show visitors the unprecedented opulence of the castle. They tell about the different rooms or answer questions.

Detailed description

Who are we?

Whether you visit Kasteel de Haar for the park, the wonderful history, the exhibitions, the gardens, the deer or to get married, you will imagine yourself in another world. Behind every door, every detail, every flower from the colorful gardens, there is a story. About other times, other cultures, other figures. De Haar is the largest castle in the Netherlands, which was once privately owned by the van Zuylen family and where her descendants still reside annually. The international jet set from the last century, with its exuberant lifestyle, also regularly visited the castle. From Coco Chanel to Roger Moore, they left their mark in the luxurious rooms of the most opulent place in Utrecht.

The Castle de Haar Foundation is committed to preserving and maintaining the castle, the gardens and the collection. In addition, we aim to make the entire complex accessible to a wide audience.

Activities

Room guides are there for visitors to the castle to tell the best stories about the history, the collection, the residents and all associated anecdotes. This is done in a proactive and dynamic manner. Room guides rotate in different rooms and have contact with visitors from home and abroad.

"Being a volunteer at Kasteel de Haar gives you the opportunity to take guests along in the great history and beautiful stories of the Castle and its residents."

Michel Brouwer - Room guide

About Kasteel de Haar

De Haar Castle was rebuilt about a hundred years ago on the remains of a medieval castle. The castle looks medieval, but for the past century it functioned as a very fashionable and representative house for the Van Zuylen family, who occupy it for 1 month a year. Until the year 2000, the Van Zuylen family was private owner, since then it has been housed in the Kasteel de Haar Foundation, which has set itself the objective of preserving the castle and the interior in good condition and opening it to the public through exploitation.

Kaseel de Haar annually organizes a large number of public events, such as the Elf Fantasy Fair and the Christmas Fair. There are regular themed tours, concerts, children's events and family days. The castle also makes rooms available for weddings, receptions or dinners.

There are about 25 permanent employees and more than 200 volunteers. There are volunteers who show around, assist in the garden or castle shop or support the technical staff.

A very nice inspiring workplace combined with a lot of fun!
