Desk clerk Wednesday (medical consultation hour)

STIL is a solidarity organization for people without a residence permit. For over 20 years we have been helping refugees and other migrants without a right of residence in the Netherlands on legal, medical and social matters.

We offer most people first-line help (short advice, referral) during one of our consultation hours. Some of them qualify for more intensive, second-line guidance.

We are looking for a desk clerk for Wednesday, from 8.45 am to 5 pm. starting later is not possible, stopping a little earlier is negotiable. The medical consultation hour takes place on Wednesday morning. During this consultation hour, we inform people about their rights and options, refer them to and mediate in obtaining medical care. As a result, it is often very busy on Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon it is quieter and you are mainly occupied with answering the phone and if possible / necessary with administrative tasks.

Job description

As a bali employee you are the 1st point of contact for the visitors. Your workplace is in our waiting room, where it is sometimes busy and chaotic. Your activities are diverse:

• you chat with visitors, make sure that the coffee and tea are ready and you keep the waiting room tidy and do the dishes;
• you check whether visitors are already known in our registration system (and supplement this if necessary) and make an inventory of the questions;
• you refer visitors to the right employee or the right consultation hour;
• you answer the phone;
• when it is quiet you can possibly do administrative chores.

Social skills are of great importance in the performance of the job. We think it is important that our visitors feel at ease and you, as a desk clerk, play an important role in this. At the same time, as a desk clerk you are also a 'gatekeeper'. You provide structure in who is helped at what time for which question. That means you should also be able to say 'no'.

Our visitors and clients are in a very difficult position and have often been through a lot. So you have to be firm in your shoes, be flexible and keep a cool head. It is important that you can speak to people calmly and respectfully, clearly and clearly.
