Summary
Would you like to play a major role in meeting and guiding a group of language coaches and young families? Then read on here!Detailed description
Do you like language and do you have an affinity with education? Would you like to play a major role in meeting and guiding a group of language coaches and young families? Then you are our new coordinator 'Reading and Talking with your Child'!
Reading and Talking with your Child (abbreviation: LPK) is a project aimed at stimulating the language development of children and enriching the language environment at home. It focuses entirely on equal partnership with parents: working together on the language development of the young child (0-3 years). Parents with language delays are sometimes difficult to reach, with the risk of health problems and language delay in the children as a result. Taal Doet Meer therefore wants to work with non-native parents to get started with the language environment and literacy at home from the very first moment. Education and health themes are of course also discussed.
Reading and Talking with your Child consists of two different trajectories: TaalThuisvisits and parent-child groups. The different routes are explained below.
The language coach Taalthuisreizen and parents of young children (0 to 4 years old) will discuss language enrichment at home, using teaching materials from Taal Doet Meer. The starting point is what parents are already doing, and together you investigate what would stimulate (language) development even more. The parent-child groups are groups where mothers come together to exchange experiences and practice Dutch. They are supervised by a voluntary facilitator and a reading and playing volunteer who works with the children. As a coordinator, you guide and coach the Language Coach Language Home Visit, the facilitator and the reading and play volunteer and the families to whom they are linked.
What do you do as a Language Home Visit Coordinator?
Your tasks as a coordinator are very diverse: you conduct intake interviews with new participants, link a language coach to a family, guide the voluntary language coaches and keep all this in our registration system. You enter into an equal dialogue with parents and together you look at what you could do to stimulate the language development of the young child.
The coordinator is supported by the project leader of Taal Doet Meer. We expect you to be motivated and to work as a coordinator for at least one year.

About Taal Doet Meer
Voluntary language coaches offer language coaching and activation to men and women who do not have Dutch as their mother tongue. Our volunteer mentors support students with language and schoolwork. They receive extra support to make a good start in first year and when doing homework.
Our work benefits everyone involved: students get to know the language and society. Students perform better in school. Volunteers broaden their horizons, develop their social skills and contribute to understanding and cohesion within Utrecht society.
