About the feature

Do you have a warm heart for culture and would you like to spend a few free hours in a unique museum run by an enthusiastic team of employees? Then you are most welcome at the Vechtstreek Museum.

Our hostesses and hosts receive visitors, provide information about the exhibitions and are at the reception for the sale of tickets and books. They also serve our guests on the terrace and in the coffee corner during regular opening hours. Knowledge or experience with these activities is not necessary, but can help. We mainly expect that you enjoy performing these activities, and are willing to learn in practice. We also find conviviality very important. We regularly meet in meetings and every year we organize a very nice day for all volunteers. Then we go out together for a day, to another museum or another activity. There is also a periodic employee newsletter to keep in touch and to stay informed about the ups and downs of the museum. There is a caring and warm atmosphere.

About the museum

The Vechtstreek Museum is located in park Goudestein on the Vecht in Maarssen. It is located in the former Silverstein country estate, which served as Goudestein's coach house after the renovation.

The museum focuses on the culture, history and art of the entire Vecht region. The permanent collection in particular pays a lot of attention to the historic buildings and tea domes, with a special room for the Huydecoper family, who built the original country estate.

Every year there are special exhibitions and guided tours are provided both inside and outside the museum. There are also various films that give a good picture of various highlights and sights in the Vecht region.

Working hours, frequency and duration

The day(s)/day(s) and times you are deployed depend on our opening hours. From January to April and from October to December we are open from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm, and from May to September from 11 am to 5 pm. In the summer season we work with morning and afternoon shifts. We work according to a schedule, in which you can indicate your availability. We therefore do not expect you to be available on all days/parts indicated, but we do ask for some degree of flexibility. We also regularly organize lectures and other fun activities that sometimes take place in the evenings. You can also indicate your availability for this.

Skills

It is important that you have an open and active attitude towards our visitors. They experience it as a party to visit us and we think it is important that we radiate that. In addition to telling about the permanent exhibition and the current temporary exhibition, you provide our guests with coffee, tea, etc. on request and you bring the range in our store to the attention in a pleasant way. Of course you do this in a hospitable and pleasant way. If you start working with us as a host/hostess, you will first attend a service a few times with experienced hostesses and hosts. In this way you get to know the work and your colleagues. Even if you are scheduled independently, we ensure that you are never alone. We always schedule you together with one or more other gaswomen/hosts.
