The Utrecht Library is for everyone. You can count on us for your personal development for the rest of your life. You can read, learn and inform yourself with us. We encourage you to get acquainted with literature, culture and society. Utrecht is a city full of diversity, culture, stories and science. The Library organizes activities ranging from lectures, debates and courses for adults to performances, treasure hunts and workshops for children.

The purpose of Stories at the Reading Table

The Library is for all Utrecht residents. We try to bring people together so that we can learn from each other. Stories at the Reading Table is aimed at reading life stories to the elderly that they can recognize, so that they can (re)experience them in a positive way and they can more easily come into contact with other elderly people. Talking and experiencing together creates beautiful and lasting contacts with people from the same neighbourhood.

Volunteers read aloud

Volunteers use, among other things, the book with life stories "In my suitcase in the attic", collected and written by José Franssen. You read to a small group of elderly people and help them have a conversation based on the story. You are social, can tell well and clearly and enjoy listening to the stories of others.

Who are you?

• You are social, open and feel at ease in a group of elderly people.
• You are at least 18 years old.
• You speak Dutch very well.
• You have a broad interest in the stories of others.
• Your affinity with the elderly and you are patient.

Time investment and availability.

• Stories at the Reading Table is every other week on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Kanaleneiland.
• You are available at least once a month
• You want to be part of our team for (at least) six months.
