What we do

In the Netherlands, a lot of food is thrown away, while people live in poverty and social isolation and children go to school hungry. For this BuurtBuik comes into action! We collect food from supermarkets, restaurants and caterers and organize free meals with and for local residents. In this way, we simultaneously combat food waste and bring local residents together.

About BuurtBuik

BuurtBuik is currently six years old and we are active in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam. We give away 2,000 meals each week with about 150 volunteers. The ambition is to provide thousands of people with a place at the table every day throughout the Netherlands. The organization is growing steadily and that is why we invest in professionalization through training programs, we develop our work processes to fit our current phase and we look for stable partners and funds at scale.

Job description

As a board member at BuurtBuik you are part of a group of people who jointly ensure that a BuurtBuik location can save kilos of food every week. You regularly meet as a board to meet and see how your BuurtBuik can grow. The bigger your bet, the more impact you can make with and within BuurtBuik! Together with the rest of the board, you are responsible for all activities at a neighborhood level, such as logistics, recruitment, planning and organization. For this you maintain contacts with suppliers, social organizations but especially with the volunteers. During the month you will work one or two afternoons as a day coordinator in addition to your activities as a board member. You function as a point of contact for volunteers and eaters, you are responsible for the course of the day and think about how everything can run even better.
