Volunteers (50+) wanted for library reading groups

In September (or earlier if possible) Gilde Utrecht will start with new groups in several libraries. A reading group consists of a maximum of 6 participants and is supervised by 1 or 2 volunteers. The group meets for an hour each week. Reading is the starting point, but speaking -in response to the text- is just as good.

Our goal is:

• help participants to further develop their feeling for the Dutch language;
• expand their vocabulary;
• to gain knowledge of Dutch habits and customs through reading;
• to meet and talk to other non-native speakers.

For reading we may use material provided by the library. Simple Dutch written books at different levels or newspapers written in simple Dutch. But you can also think of poems, an advertising brochure or a recipe.

What we expect from the volunteer:

• location and time are determined in consultation with our coordinator;
• you arrange teaching materials through our representative in the library;
• you manage the structure, content and progress of the meetings;
• you create a good atmosphere: safe, inviting, inspiring;
• you are +/- 50 years or older.

We are looking for several volunteers and preferably people who would like to start a reading group in the library in Leidsche Rijn. We are already recruiting people so that we can hopefully start working in several libraries in September.
