Board member Marketing & Communication (unpaid)

Who are we?

SIW is a versatile Dutch non-profit exchange organization (NGO). For more than 65 years, SIW has been hosting foreign volunteers on various projects in the Netherlands and Dutch volunteers are sent to projects all over the world. In total, this concerns approximately 250 broadcasts and receipts per year. SIW is part of three international networks (Alliance, CCIVS and SCI).

SIW's mission is to encourage people to broaden their horizons. SIW does this by bringing volunteers into contact with other cultures. In this way, SIW wants to increase intercultural understanding, contribute to the personal development of volunteers and encourage them to dedicate themselves to a better society “For and by volunteers”.

SIW's activities are organized by approximately 70 enthusiastic voluntary employees. The board of SIW consists of 8 members and is jointly responsible for the entire organization. Each board member has his / her own portfolio for which he / she is responsible.

What are you going to do?

Within SIW, the marketing & communication team deals with online and offline marketing and internal and external communication. This team effectively brings the activities of SIW to the attention of aspiring adventurous volunteers. You will manage the coordinators within the team and keep an overview of the various activities. These include promoting SIW via the website, social media and targeted visits to schools, fairs and events and organizing information moments for volunteers who are considering setting out with SIW. In addition, SIW pays more attention to marketing, for example with the help of a few graduates.

You are the link between the coordinators of the various volunteer employees who make these activities possible and you represent the marketing & communication team on the board. You support and replace the chairman in contacts with the press. Together with the other teams within SIW you know how to respond to trends and you can respond to current events. You are responsible for the budget that is determined annually.

Who are you?

• You are enthusiastic about the projects, objectives and mission of SIW;
• You have the ambition to hold a board position and / or experience therein;
• You have experience in coordinating and managing volunteers. You can organize and you like to monitor the overview and cooperation;
• You are decisive, analytical, a team player and customer oriented;
• You are proactive, you know how to stimulate and motivate volunteers;
• You have a background in marketing / communication;
• You have experience with online and offline marketing and social media;
• Knowledge of the impact of privacy legislation on publicity is an advantage;
• You are willing to set aside approximately 8-10 hours per week for SIW, including 2 evenings per month for the coordinators' consultation and the board meeting;
• You also help to promote SIW to potential participants, for example on information days / evenings, at trade fairs, school meetings and / or on social media;
• You intend to commit to this position for at least two years;
• You preferably live in the Utrecht area;
• Young people, women and people with a multicultural background and / or involved in the education of young people are explicitly invited to apply in order to form as diverse a board as possible.
