WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE CAFÉ?

The Taalcafé is a place where people can talk to each other informally. It is specifically about meeting and conversation. Volunteers and participants form varying, small groups. The Taalcafé discusses the most diverse topics: holidays, food, sports, crazy proverbs and how to make soap; everything will pass. There is always a coordinator who welcomes people, walks around and sits down at different tables. And that coordinator can be you!

What do you do as a Language Café Coordinator?

As a coordinator, you are the face of the Taalcafé. You are on location every week. You welcome visitors, connect them and think along where necessary. You guide the volunteers and participants in the Language Café and answer their questions. You perform these tasks with a colleague coordinator.

After following an introductory course, you start coordinating the Language Café. You will be trained by a project leader and you can follow coordinators from other Language Cafés. Even after the familiarization process, you will be supported by a project employee and project leader from Taal Doet Meer.

You perform your tasks at a connecting location in the neighborhood, such as a library or a community center

We offer our coordinators an introductory course, professional development, consultation with other coordinators and close contact with the organization and the project team. You will be supported by a language consultant for expert advice and for tailor-made material. Finally, we also offer a volunteer contract and third-party liability insurance.

With your efforts, you ensure that dozens of meetings take place every week between Utrechters from various backgrounds, in which language is the common thread. Utrecht residents feel more connected to their city and you contribute to that!
