About Volksbuurtmuseum
Everyone knows a working-class neighborhood somewhere in the immediate vicinity. What exactly is a working-class neighborhood? People often do not think positively and associate the working-class neighborhood with antisocial behaviour, crime and quarrels. People often don't know that there is another side to it. In the presentations of the Volksbuurtmuseum you can discover whether the prejudices and opinions are justified.
The working-class neighborhood Wijk C is a model for life in the Dutch working-class neighbourhoods. In the interactive Alley you can experience what it was like to live in cramped and poor conditions around 1920. Walk around with a household book and wallet and see if you can manage with your budget.
In the multimedia presentation about the characteristics of a working-class neighbourhood, you will hear and see what a working-class area is. Past and present are discussed and make you think. And that in genuine 'Uterechs', Amsterdams, Rotterdams and Cockney!
You can learn how working-class neighborhoods came into being at Wijk C in Wording. From settlement on the Vecht, via rich district to poor working-class neighbourhood. The attractive animations - also in English - bring history alive from the earliest times.
The interactive model teaches you in a playful way how life on the street played out around 1925 and that with disappeared sounds and smells!
