Summary
A coordinator supports a group of readers and families and forms the link between the readers and the local project management.Detailed description
At the VoorleesExpress, a voluntary reader visits a family every week to read to the children (aged 2 to 8). We thereby stimulate the language development of the children and enrich the language environment at home together with the parents. The parents are given tools to take over the reading themselves and to give books a permanent place in daily life. As a coordinator, you supervise a group of families and readers. That way you can ensure that even more families are read to!
What do you do as a VoorleesExpress coordinator?
As a coordinator, you supervise a group of families and readers for six months. You are the linchpin between the families, readers and project management and you monitor the progress of the project. You are well aware of what is happening in the families and you record the progress. With each reader you go to the family three times. To be able to fulfill these tasks as well as possible, you follow three training courses, given by the project management of VoorleesExpress Utrecht. You pass these training courses on to your reading team. Coordinating one season takes about 60 to 80 hours.
What do you have at home?
- You have an affinity with children, language and cultures
- You are open to new encounters
- You enjoy organizing and coaching
- You are eager to learn, independent and reliable
- You are flexible weekly
- You are willing to commit for a period of at least six months
- You are willing to develop yourself and participate in an in-depth workshop or training.
What do you get in return?
As a coordinator you can gain experience with a large and diverse group of volunteers and participants from all kinds of cultures. You can expect guidance from the organization, you will follow a basic training and you can participate in professional development and various other activities. Finally, we also offer a volunteer contract and third-party liability insurance. With your efforts you ensure that weekly meetings take place between Utrechters from various backgrounds, in which language is the common thread. Utrecht residents feel more connected to their city and you contribute to that!

Corona time
This vacancy is open for the period after the corona time, when we can visit each other again. We hope this moment is September 2020, we are working towards that now. Do you also want to do something during the corona time? Please contact us. We will then look together at what is possible.

Voluntary language coaches offer language coaching and activation to men and women who do not have Dutch as their mother tongue. Our volunteer mentors support students with language and schoolwork. They receive extra support to make a good start in first year and when doing homework.
Our work benefits everyone involved: students get to know the language and society. Students perform better in school. Volunteers broaden their horizons, develop their social skills and contribute to understanding and cohesion within Utrecht society.
